Less than a week ago, the Senate Republican healthcare bill crashed and burned. The President of the United States called the vote a 48-to-4 vote; he discarded the 48 Democrats in the Senate. The key to passing a healthcare bill is, as it is and has been with everything else, compromise. But the Republican party and especially the Tea Party, as well as the President, are absolutely unwilling to even negotiate with the Democrats. The United States Republic was founded on the basis of compromise; many great compromises were made at the dawn of this nation to make its founding possible. And now, as America and her people ride through one of their most divisive political climates, we must ask ourselves, where has the American culture of compromise gone?
Without compromise, in a two-party system such as ours, with such ironclad division of powers and system of checks and balances, the government cannot function. And this healthcare bill – and its predecessors, including the ACA – are prime examples of the failure of this uncompromising climate. Here at Logikos Advocacy Group, we have made it our mission to bring back the fundamental principle of compromise. The greatest period of economic growth in the history of this country, from after the second world war to the Great Recession, was made possible by men and women who were willing to work together to make this country into the best it can be. That is our mission, here at LAG. And that, is what we try to accomplish in our healthcare bill – which we will soon present to the American people.
